Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 1, 2026

Turf (“Turf,” “the app,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a fitness and territory-mapping application operated by Acerra Security. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

  • Account information such as email, name/handle, and profile details
  • Location data, including GPS routes, activity paths, and claimed territory
  • Activity data such as distance, duration, pace, elevation, and related metrics
  • Device and app information needed for functionality, security, and push notifications
  • Social actions such as kudos, comments, friends, and shared activities

Background Location Data Collection

Turf collects precise location data (latitude, longitude, speed, and elevation) in the background when an activity recording session is active.

  • Purpose: To record GPS activity tracks, render live route maps, calculate claimed territory polygons, and provide audio cues even when the app is closed, minimized, or the screen is locked.
  • When Collected: Background location collection only occurs while an active recording session is running. It stops automatically when you pause or finish your recording.
  • Data Sharing: Background location tracks are stored securely on our servers and are never sold, rented, or shared with third-party advertisers.
  • User Control: You can manage or revoke location permissions at any time through your Android device settings (Settings > Apps > Turf > Permissions > Location).

2. How we use information

  • Provide activity tracking, map, and territory features
  • Verify activities and help prevent abuse or cheating
  • Power social feed, rankings, campaigns, and profile progression
  • Send optional notifications you choose to enable
  • Maintain security, reliability, and app performance

3. Location data

Turf requires location access to record outdoor activities and territory claims. Location data is used for live tracking, closed-loop detection, territory ownership, and map display. Because territory features depend on real-world movement, location data is central to how the app works.

4. Sharing of information

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information with service providers that help us operate Turf, such as authentication, database hosting, maps, analytics, crash reporting, and push notification services.

Depending on your settings, certain profile details and shared activities may be visible to other Turf users.

5. Data retention

We retain account and activity data while your account remains active and as needed to operate the service. You may request deletion of your account or associated data by contacting us.

6. Children’s privacy

Turf is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

8. Your choices

  • Control notification permissions in your device settings
  • Use in-app privacy and sharing controls where available
  • Request account or data deletion by contacting us
